“Khao Mok Gai” (
ข้าวหมกไก่) is a southern Thai dish that consists of spiced chicken and rice that has been fried with turmeric and
other spices. It has influences from Indian and Muslim cuisine and resembles biryani, which is why it is also called “Thai Biryani” in the West. The dish is
often served with fresh herbs, fried shallots, cucumber slices and a sauce made from palm sugar, tamarind, chilis and a range of spices. The dish is also known
as “Khao Buree” (
ข้าวบุหรี่).
