Gaeng Khilek (Isaan)

The dish “Gaeng Khilek” ( แกงขี้เหล็ก ) from Isaan is a soup that uses the leaves of the cassia tree, which are also known as “cassia leaves”. These are cooked in yanang extract and water together with beef, buffalo or pork and give the soup a unique flavor.

Even though it has the same name, the Gaeng Khilek from Isaan is a completely different dish from the Gaeng Khilek with coconut milk that is known in other regions of Thailand.
